As I discover a new type of sweet bread typical of a region can not avoid want to make it. Some time ago I came across the net with a recipe book shows named “Scandinavian Christmas” with typical Scandinavian recipes, and appeared a braided bread too tempting. This finnish cardamom braid is most festive and very appropriate to join our Christmas recipes.
See how to make finnish cardamon braid for Christmas:
1. Crumble the yeast into the warm milk, add a pinch of sugar and a tsp of flour and mix well. Cover with a cloth and let rise for 30 minutes. In a large bowl mix bread flour with the remaining sugar, cardamom and salt. Form a hole and add the butter, egg and preferment.
2. Mix a bit, add the raisins and begin to knead until you get a smooth and elastic dough. Form into a ball, place in a greased bowl, cover and let rise until it double its size. Deflate slightly and knead. Cover and let stand for half an hour.
3. Preheat the oven to 374°F and prepare a tray, divide the dough into three equal parts, forming three long rolls and braid them. Place on the baking sheet, paint with a beaten egg and decorate with almonds. Bake for 25-30 minutes until it has browned. Cool in wire rack.
